Diabetic Retinopathy: Who May Be at Risk?

Diabetic Retinopathy: Who May Be at Risk?

If you are someone with both diabetes type 1 & type 2 you are at risk of getting diabetic retinopathy. This only reinforces the importance of having an eye exam at least once a year at Palm Beach Eye Center.

It is estimated that between 40 – 45 percent of Americans diagnosed with diabetes will have some form of diabetic retinopathy.  While there isn’t a cure for diabetic retinopathy, physicians are able to prescribe treatments that help prevent it from getting worse.

Diabetic retinopathy can be very dangerous, specifically for a pregnant woman.  It is highly recommended that pregnant women have a comprehensive dilated eye exam as early as possible in the pregnancy.
